New in Social Responsibility Reporting – Sustainable Purchasing

The International Standards Organisation (ISO) has begun working on a new standard related to social responsibility. This time is about sustainable purchasing — temporary code “ISO/PC 277”. The standard is in the 10.99 stage, meaning the proposal has been approved and it will be drafted in the coming months. For those not familiar with the ISO process, 10th stage refers to initial steps in drafting a new standard. In this phase, standard proposals can be rejected as well, but the one on sustainable purchasing was well received.

From what I could learn from the ISO website, the standard should be ready by 2018. Here are some brief details about the committee in charge with drafting the standard. No other information has been released so far, except the fact that there is going to be a meeting of the Liaison Committee in Paris on September 23-24, 2013.

If you want to see some opinions on this subject, I suggest you read Shaun McCarthy’s article — the leader of the UK delegation — on “Supply Management” webplatform. Unfortunately, I cannot find any information about a Romanian delegation. I am going to do some research on this as soon as the International Conference on Social Responsibility, Ethics, and Sustainable Business 2013 is over.
